Did you know....
The nutmeg tree has an interesting property that distinguishes it from other spice plants - it is one of the few plants from which two different culinary products are obtained. The seeds of the nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) are used to obtain just nutmeg (Semen Myrysticae), while the red, lacy covering surrounding the seed, called the nutmeg, yields another prized spice - nutmeg flower, also known as macis. Both are different in flavor and aroma, although they come from the same source.
